Double
Glazed Sash Windows
Double glazing
Our traditional double glazed timber sash windows are made to replicate the
original sash windows which are or would have been fitted in to your property
when it was originally built. The only difference from the original windows is
that the new windows are discreetly double glazed, (exceptions in some listed
buildings) undistinguishable from single glazed windows, replicating every fine
detail and moulding. The timber sash windows come with pulleys, hang on ropes
but do not let out the heat.
Our new installations are compliant with the
building regulation document L October 2011 update. FENSA.
Individual
Handmade windows:
All of our windows are handmade in our workshop
bespoke to your individual requirements. Experience is key when getting the
details right. Our craftsmen take great pleasure when replicating centuries old
designs.
Windows of
Distinction by Control Sash Windows
When we are commissioned to build intricate ornate windows or replica windows
for listed buildings (Windows of distinction) these are specifically crafted
using traditional methods and techniques. Are joiners are awarded a special
certificate for their own portfolio every time they make one of these.
Constructed from raw timber through to a finished work of art, these are true
craftsmen.
We are on the Brighton & Hove Council planning officers
approved contractor list for installation of double glazed timber sash windows.
We also work with many other councils and London boroughs.
Double glazing existing windows
is an affordable
option in comparison to complete new windows. So long as the existing frames
are in a useable condition we can just replace the sashes or leafs in the box
frame or casement. This is about 1/3 of the cost of a new box sash window. We
still use the high performance low 'e' argon filled double glazed units,
replicating all of the details of the original windows. Before the new sashes
are installed we will renovate the existing box frames, installing our draft
proofing system at the same time. Decorating can be included in the works.
Plastic windows retaining the existing sash window box frame or surround
of the original sash windows is common place. In most cases if the frames are
not rotten we can remove the uPVC windows and retain the box frame and
construct and install new double glazed sashes. This is roughly 2/3 of the cost
of complete replacements. A simple survey can establish the possibilities.
Planning permission is an issue when altering period properties, even if
you are restoring the original windows. This can be easily dealt with by us,
including the application submission. We have our own in house architectural
services due to the amount of applications and drawings we submit.

information on your planning requirements.
Glass: The new windows are fitted with high performance double glazed units
incorporating low e glass, with a thermal spacer and argon gas inside as an
optional extra. Other optional extras are available i.e. noise reductive glass,
laminated glass for security or Pilkington Activ which is a self-cleansing
glass. A common request is for obscure glass to be fitted into bathroom
windows. Please see Pilkington’s website for their complete range. http://www.pilkington.com/europe/uk+and+ireland/english/default.htm
All of the double glazed units we fit now comply with European standard
EN 1279 Part 3,

Quotations can be provided free of charge with one of our experts
surveying the windows. Once this has been done we can then provide you with a
detailed informative quotation including the supply, and fitting of the
windows. This includes any associated works including plastering additional
mouldings, carpentry and decorating.
Decorating can be included in the quote, or you can specify that you use your
own decorator. The decorators paint sash windows day after day which means they
are highly skilled when knowing what should and what should not be painted.
Remember sash windows are a mechanical device. The finish is everything. We
have accounts with both DULUX and Farrow and Ball. The Farrow and Ball range
will be additional to the DULUX range. Ironmogery such as locks and sash pulls
are fitted as standard in either brass or most popularlaly chrome once the
decorating has been completed.
Any associated works can be done utilising scaffold i.e. decoration of the
front and rear of the properties. Other home improvement services are available
from our company. Please see our sister website. www.controlbuild.co.uk
Guarantees and certification of compliance with document L of the
building regulations are provided with all new installations covered by an
insurance backed 10 year guarantee through in association with FENSA. Special
installations i.e. on Grade Listed buildings may be dealt directly with local
authority building control.
